Mike Van Ryn plays for the Florida Panthers. He was born in London, Ontario and now lives in Davie, Florida. He was very easy to talk to.

Can you tell us something about yourself that people would be surprised to know?
Down in my family heritage I am related to Rembrandt, the famous painter.

What was your most meaningful moment as a kid?
My parents always told me it didn’t matter what I did, they’d always be proud of me. That’s the most meaningful thing to me.

Did you always want to be a hockey star? When you were a little kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a mechanic. I loved my Dad when I was a kid and he worked with heavy machinery. I looked up to him so that’s what I wanted to do. Then I realized that hockey was fun and it all changed.
